Product Overview
Green silicon carbide is a higher-purity, more friable abrasive than black silicon carbide, making it the preferred choice for grinding extremely hard and brittle materials. Its sharper cutting edges and greater friability provide superior performance on tungsten carbide, ceramics, and other materials where black silicon carbide falls short.
Silicon carbide’s relatively high thermal conductivity helps dissipate heat, while its chemical stability ensures consistent performance across a wide range of applications.
Key Characteristics
- Higher purity - More consistent performance and improved friability
- Sharper, more friable - Aggressive cutting action
- Self-sharpening - Fractures expose fresh cutting edges
- High thermal conductivity - Efficient heat dissipation
- Chemically stable - Resists degradation
- Electrically conductive - Suitable for specialized applications
When to Use
Ideal for grinding materials with extremely high hardness:
- Tungsten carbide tools and inserts
- Cemented carbides
- Ceramics and porcelain
- Stone, marble, granite
- Glass and optical materials
- Chilled iron castings
- Non-ferrous metals (specialty or precision applications)
ⓘ Note: Not recommended for high-tensile strength steels; aluminum oxide abrasives are typically preferred.
Common Applications
Abrasive Applications
- Grinding wheels for carbide tools
- Coated abrasives (sandpaper, belts)
- Lapping and polishing compounds
- Tumbling and vibratory finishing
- Specialty pressure blasting media
Non-Abrasive Applications
- Refractory materials and products
- Electrical and electronic components (specialty applications)
- Friction materials
- Wear-resistant parts and coatings
- Advanced ceramics
