Product Overview
Black silicon carbide is a sharp, fast-cutting abrasive with excellent electrical and heat conductivity. Its brittle, angular grain structure creates fresh cutting edges during use, making it ideal for grinding materials with low tensile strength.
Silicon carbide’s relatively high thermal conductivity helps dissipate heat, while its chemical stability supports consistent performance across a wide range of applications.
Key Characteristics
- Sharp, angular grain - Aggressive cutting action
- Brittle fracture - Self-sharpening during use
- High thermal conductivity - Effective heat dissipation
- Chemically stable - Resists degradation
- Electrically conductive - Suitable for specialized applications where conductivity is required
When to Use
Best for grinding materials with low tensile strength:
- Cast iron and grey iron
- Aluminum, brass, bronze
- Stone, marble, granite
- Ceramics and glass (general applications)
- Rubber and leather
- Non-metallic materials
ⓘ Note: Not recommended for high-tensile strength steels (use Aluminum Oxide instead)
Common Applications
Abrasive Applications
- Grinding wheels and bonded abrasives
- Coated abrasives (sandpaper, belts)
- Lapping and polishing compounds
- Tumbling and vibratory finishing
- Specialty pressure blasting media
Non-Abrasive Applications
- Refractory materials and products
- Electrical and electronic components (specialty applications)
- Friction materials
- Wear-resistant parts and coatings
